_This_438_page_book_is_illustrated_with_over_100_maps_pictures_and_pho_2299_aOflNtPmJc_jpegThe Phuket Chapter of the American Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM) is proudly hosting an event on Friday the 8th of March at the Royal Phuket Marina to launch local expat Colin Mackay’s new book, A History of Phuket. Registration starts at 5pm and a 1 hour presentation from the author will begin at 6pm. There’s a chance to mingle and meet others after as drinks will follow from 7 to 8pm. The event is open to the public, entry is 200 baht which includes two drinks.

I am really looking forward to getting my hands on this book, as it’s always surprised me how little can be found written in english on Phuket’s rich history and culture. I’ve known Scotsman Colin and his wife Ana for many years, and over these years Colin has always fascinated me with his stories and vast knowledge of Phuket, so I am certain that this book is going to captivate anyone who has an interest to learn more about this wonderful island.

Colin first visited Phuket back in 1985 and came to live on the island permanently in 1998 where he still lives with his wife Ana and their 2 daughters. Over the years he has thoroughly researched Phuket’s history, and his 438 page masterpiece examines life on this island for the past 2000 years, with more than 1,000 original quotes and writings from commentators and visitors, illustrations of over 100 maps, pictures and photographs, many of which have never been published before.
