In August 2011 my wife and I decided to purchase a ‘holiday home’ in Phuket. We had visited the island several times previously and considered it an ideal place buy. The resort that we liked most was Kamala and our search was defined to that area. At this stage we had returned to the UK so I sent email enquiries to 3 separate real estate agents. Only Barry King from Prime Real estate replied immediately. By this time I had identified a new development of townhouses which suited our needs perfectly. There was only one unit left for sale and our worry was it would be in a poor position. Barry immediately offered to personally visit the building site and see exactly which unit was left and where it was located. He quickly informed us the unit was in a good location and there were no apparent problems.
We then decided to buy the house and from that point onwards Barry took care of all the immediate procedures in Thailand. He put us in touch with a first class independent lawyer who is now dealing with all the legal issues. This whole procedure was made ‘painless’ thanks to Barry’s hard work in Thailand. When I visited the Thailand a couple of weeks later Barry met me at the airport and spent the next couple of days showing me around and introducing me to all the relevant people. One of the problems in buying a house ‘off plan’ 7 thousand miles away from where you live is you cannot keep abreast of the progress. Barry has been and visited the site on occasions and given us regular updates, which is of great comfort when you can’t see it for yourself!

After two kids, we decided we wanted to upgrade to a bigger vacation home and we needed to sell our original home first. There are so many real estate agents in Thailand, we didn’t know where to start. We ended up listing our place with all of them and on every website we could find. However, only a couple of the agents ever did anything or ever brought any potential buyers. Barry was, by far, the best agent we contacted and worked with – trustworthy, straightforward, and extremely knowledgeable. Moreover, he just gets what expats are looking for in a home. First, he connected us up with phenomenal contractors to fix the minor things around our home, so that it was in mint condition when selling it. Then he maintained constant contact with us – unlike all of the other agents. He also didn’t waste our time with any buyers that weren’t serious. In fact, everyone he brought by wanted to put in an offer on our place. Moreover, he was the only agent to bring in a steady stream of buyers. And the ultimate buyer didn’t even visit our place before purchasing – they just trusted Barry’s opinion that much! And in the end, our patience paid off, as we received our full asking price after waiting a couple of months on the market through the slow season.
